Research and Writing Support

A wide variety of learning supports are available to UBC students through the Learning Commons. Please refer to the Learning Commons website or the Learning Commons Information Desk on level 3 of Irving K Barber to get connected to the academic support that best suits you. Students may find the following Resource Guides page to be particularly useful.  Faculty or staff looking to book group coaching sessions are encouraged to use the contact form on the tutoring page.

The Centre for Writing and Scholarly Communication (CWSC), located in the Irving K. Barber Learning Centre, www.library.ubc.ca/writing recently appointed a new program manager: Patty Kelly. Under Patty’s leadership, CWSC is pleased to provide dedicated support to WRDS 150 students in the coming term in a variety of ways.

One-on-One Sessions with a Peer Consultant

Students can sign up for a one-on-one, 25-minute-long appointment to talk about their written work with a peer writing consultant at the CWSC, 3rd floor, Irving K. Barber Learning Centre. Writing consultants work with students to improve their writing, shape their writing process, and meet their academic goals. For more information, visit www.library.ubc.ca/writing or email cwsc.info@ubc.ca

Collaborations With CWSC

Our faculty collaborate with the CWSC through the Profs-in-Commons initiative (https://learningcommons.ubc.ca/profs-in-commons/) and by organizing events such as the workshop on Knowledge Translation held in July, 2019 (see: https://learningcommons.ubc.ca/improve-your-writing/workshops-events-blocks/faculty-staff/

ScWRL is an interactive tool that provides students and instructors with resources to support them in developing skills in and in teaching science research and communication. It be found here.
