In conjunction with the Music Department, ASRW offers a specialized section of WRDS 150 to coordinate with first-year Bachelor of Music students’ schedule and address their particular interests. One objective of WRDS 150 is to introduce students to the scholarly practices of research and writing; students develop an understanding of differences between the forms of research and writing in various academic disciplines and how they intersect and complement one another. This specially designed section of WRDS 150 explores knowledge making in scholarly and practical musical activity. By doing this, BMus students engage with and produce knowledge that strengthens their development as musicians and members of UBC’s scholarly community. This year, students are “Engaging Performance” through their scholarly writing.
